A Walkthrough of Starting Therapy
and What to Expect

Booking a Free 20 Minute Discovery Call
- Once you get in touch to book your discovery call, you'll receive an automated email to let you know I've received your request.
- Within 48 hours, I will contact you by email to confirm a date and time for us to have a 20-minute call.

What Happens in Your 20 Minute Discovery Call?
In this chat, we can get a good idea of whether I am the right counsellor for you.
- We will either meet on a video call (via Microsoft Teams) or I will call your phone.
- We will have the opportunity to introduce ourselves, and I can answer any questions that you may have about the service.
- We'll discuss what brings you to counselling, what to expect from counselling and whether counselling with me is the right choice for you.

Booking Your First Session
After your discovery call, I make booking your first sessions as easy as possible.
- We will pick an available day and time that works for you and decide whether in-person or online sessions work best for you.
- If you're accessing counselling online, you will receive an email containing a link to join your session, along with confirmation of the date and time of your session.
- If you're accessing counselling in-person, you will receive an email to confirm the date, time and location of your appointment. You will also receive information regarding parking and local buses.

What Can You Expect During Your First Session?
- Starting your first therapy session can feel intimidating; I'd like to demystify the process so you know exactly what you're walking into.
- Your first session is a great opportunity for us to delve deeper into what brought you to counselling.
- If you've had therapy before, we'll have a chat to understand what did and didn't help in the past. We'll get an idea of whether you want me to offer structure, include creative activities and tools, or simply step back and hold the space for you.
- Most importantly, our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, to become comfortable in the space and to start building a way of working together that feels right for you.
