Hi, I'm Thomas Bilton
I'm a qualified Therapeutic Counsellor, offering short-term and long-term therapy to adults and children. I have a Pluralistic approach grounded in Person-Centred Therapy, using Psychoeducation along with elements of Creative, Play, and Cognitive Behavioural therapies. (From November 2026, I will also be offering one-to-one Clinical Hypnotherapy sessions as a trainee hypnotherapist. This will include short-term, impact-oriented therapy aiming to support clients' mental and physical health goals.)
"I work with people to find what works.
I don't believe that any one therapy approach is 'right' for everyone; instead, I stand by personalised, adaptive and collaborative therapy that meets you where you are and puts you in the driver's seat.
After all, who knows you better than you?"
I believe authentic connection and feeling safe to express yourself freely are at the heart of good therapy. I don't have a 'professional persona'; I bring my real self into sessions in the hopes that it helps you to do the same. I create a space that feels casual, comfortable, and brings 'speaking to a professional' back into the realm of speaking to a real person.
My Experience & Specialisms
I have worked as a Counsellor in Schools across Leeds, in a Community-Based Mental Health Service in Doncaster and in private practice in Sheffield and Online. I have supported individuals from an exceptionally wide range of lived experiences, beliefs, cultures and issues.
I have significant experience supporting neurodiverse adults and children, namely people with ADHD and Autism, along with LGBTQIA+ clients. As a therapist who has ADHD and is LGBTQIA+ myself, I have a special interest in supporting these groups.
Some areas I have significant experience supporting include:
- Understanding past and navigating current social and romantic relationships
- Adverse childhood experiences and trauma
- Anxiety, panic and learned nervous system responses
- Low self-esteem and negative self-perception
- Identity exploration, self-understanding and self-acceptance
- Understanding differences in neurodivergence and working with our brains
- Difficulty navigating and setting boundaries
- Overwhelm and anger
- Masking and coping strategies
- Using non-verbal communication methods
- Bullying, self-harm and suicidal ideation
- Navigating culture, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity
- Infantilisation of neurodivergence and disability
- And many more areas
